Shedding light: Natural vs. Artificial

Most likely you’ve heard of “circadian rhythm.” It is not the name of a musical group of cicadas.  “Circa” means “around” in Latin; we all have daily cycles of biological processes. In other words, we have internal clocks/calendars which shape our behavior based on the time of day, the month, and the time of year. Humans, plants, and animals all have circadian rhythms. An essential for these processes is sunlight, not the 60 watt bulb you read the news with. At the equator, the sun is directly overhead and there are 12 hours of sunlight and 12 hours of darkness, but as you move farther from the equator and closer toward the poles, the sunlight reaches you at an angle. The days get shorter as the nights get longer, and then back to longer days with shorter nights – none of which give you the clear benefit of sun directly overhead. So our circadian rhythms can get confused, especially if we work or play indoors due to heat or frigid temperatures. If you find yourself lethargic until noon and have trouble sleeping at night, you may be due for a reset, a circadian rhythm reset. SunHugg has just the solution for you. It’s like an update, or getting the newest software installed by our closest star. Get a safe sunshine reset in a SunHugg – and you’ll be up and running in no time.

"Your sleeping and waking pattern depends on the waxing and waning of sunlight and darkness"

The natural circadian rhythm of your body begins in the brain. Your sleeping and waking pattern depends on the waxing and waning of sunlight and darkness, and without a clear pattern of these, your body loses control of its production of melatonin and serotonin. You’ve likely experienced times when you simply cannot sleep continuously and deeply at night – but you’re not at peak wakefulness during the day; your productivity proves to be lacking. There is much science about this including the light receptors in the retinas of your eyes telling the brain how to react, and that your “pineal gland” is notified to create and release the right amount of melatonin which signals to your body to become sleepy. Without a reset, this becomes a vicious cycle of poor sleep and less-than-productive days. And that, my friend, is not the sum of it. Sunlight and darkness affect digestion, mood, and immune function, too. All of us have times when our circadian rhythms are off due to travel, long work hours, and generally life’s demands pushing us to the limits. Our bodies are tricked by bright artificial light into suppressing melatonin production, but there is a remedy, a defense. You can easily reset your rhythm in the morning by stepping into the sunlight with a SunHugg for twenty minutes or so. Do yourself a favor: SunHugg today.
